About
Steve Goodson is a Birmingham native who has lived in New Orleans for the past 15 years. An accomplished saxophone player, he has played with a variety of musicians over the years, including Chubby Checker, Dr. John, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and Edwin McCain. He also operates a business out of his home specializing in designing, selling, restoring, and modifying saxophones, as well as mentoring professional musicians. As Hurricane Katrina approached New Orleans, Goodson made the decision to stay behind, defend his home, and guard his $500,000 vintage saxophone collection.
This is his account of events that unfolded between August 25 and September 9.
